At Myosymmeteries, our highly experienced, passionate and encouraging team is dedicated to coaching, educating and empowering each client in a caring and personalized manner. Our team utilizes the latest technological innovations and evidence-based neuroscientific approaches to wellness.

Our Story

For more than 40 years, Dr. Stuart Donaldson, Ph.D., BCIA(SF), ABDA, founder and former director of Myosymmetries Calgary, changed the lives of over 7500 people suffering a wide assortment of ailments and disorders before passing away in April 2020. Through the combination of computerized technology and behavioural therapies, health and wellness have been improved to enhance physical and mental performance. Dr. Donaldson used unique biofeedback treatments with tremendous success for addressing concussions, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression and much more. His techniques and teachings are still being used in the clinic to improve the lives of our clients.

Dr. Donaldson received his Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in 1989. His doctoral work was on the relationship of muscle activity as measured by surface electromyography (sEMG) to chronic pain. He utilized sEMG in studying myofascial pain and fibromyalgia. Unique in the psychophysiology field, he also studied the Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG) and brainwave activity combining sEMG with EEG biofeedback producing a comprehensive theory involving neuroplasticity and fibromyalgia.

Dr. Donaldson published extensively on both myofascial pain syndromes and fibromyalgia as well as concussions. In 1995 he won the American Journal of Pain Management Award for The Outstanding Contribution to the Interdisciplinary Pain Management Literature, for his work on sEMG, neck pain and headaches. The University of Alberta recognized his accomplishments in 2006 with an Alumni Honor Award. He served on the Board of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) and served as its president in 2015. Stuart traveled and lectured about his clinical work and research at conferences throughout North America and Europe for decades.

Many clients have struggled to find answers to their problems. With proper research-based assessment, our staff meets the clients’ needs to treat psychological or pain related challenges.

Dr. Donaldson published extensively over the years. A complete list can be found here.
